Risk factors

Obviously there are factors that you can't control, such as the topography, underlying geology and hazards such as fault lines. There are a range of things that can be done. 


Engineered solutions such as reinforced concrete facings, secured to the landscape with giant bolts, may be expensive. 


Other measures such as planting or maintaining stormwater drains may be weekend work for a homeowner.
